This week, David Lacy, the Ramp & Repair Division Lead reported that Interfaith volunteers completed two jobs, including a new roof in Lancaster and a wheelchair ramp in the Ocran area.
"It is a true blessing to provide easy and safe home access to folks with mobility issues at not cost to them. To see the smiles and tears of gratitude as an elderly person cruses down their new wheelchair ramp is priceless!"

A Month Marked by Collaboration
One of the most visible highlights of the month came through the support of a large church volunteer group from New Kent, Virginia. Interfaith’s regular weekly crew and volunteers worked side by side to complete three accessibility ramps in a single day. For the homeowners served, these ramps restored safe and reliable access, something many of us take for granted, but can be life-changing for someone facing mobility challenges.
This kind of collaboration reflects the heart of Interfaith’s work: different people, different skills, and a shared willingness to step in when help is needed.
Meeting Growing Needs, One Home at a Time
That spirit of service carried through the rest of the month as Interfaith’s weekly volunteers continued their steady work across the community. Additional projects included the construction of a deck and ramp near Heathsville, a stoop and steps near Buzzards Neck, and the installation of a storm door and handrails near Burgess in Northumberland County. In total, six major home repair projects were completed during September.
Behind each project is careful screening and coordination to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most. As awareness of Interfaith’s services continues to grow, so does the number of neighbors reaching out for help. Currently, 18 jobs are approved and ready to be scheduled, reflecting both increasing community need and deepening trust in Interfaith’s mission. These projects are expected to keep volunteers busy well into the holiday season.
Volunteers at the Heart of the Mission
None of this work happens without volunteers who believe that service matters.
Week after week, individuals and groups give their time, energy, and skills to help neighbors in need. Many volunteer groups have already committed to serving again in the months and years ahead. Others are exploring ways to get involved.
What unites these volunteers is not just a willingness to work, but a shared understanding that service is an expression of faith, compassion, and community responsibility. Interfaith is deeply grateful for every volunteer, donor, and supporter who helps make this work possible.
Looking Ahead with Purpose
As the year moves toward its close, Interfaith continues to stay connected to the community it serves. Seasonal events, including participation in the Kilmarnock Christmas Parade, offer opportunities to share the message that help is available.
Every ramp built, every step repaired, and every home made safer represents more than a completed project. It represents dignity preserved, stability restored, and a community choosing to care for one another.
Together, these efforts tell a simple but powerful story: when people serve together in the Northern Neck, lives are changed.
