Wheelchair Ramp in Ocran, Virginia

Published June 26, 2026

At the Interfaith Service Council, our mission is simple yet profound: “Spreading God’s Love through Service.”

Thanks to an incredible network of passionate volunteers, generous donors, and hardworking partners, we have been busy transforming lives and homes across Lancaster and Northumberland Counties.

Here is a look at what we’ve accomplished together recently, and how we are continuing to make a difference in our community.

Over $300,000 in Home Repairs Delivered Last Year

No one should have to live in a home that is unsafe or inaccessible simply because they cannot afford repairs.

Last year, our Ramp and Repair Division stepped up to meet this critical need, completing 51 home repair projects for local families. The total retail value of these projects exceeded $300,000—all provided at absolutely zero cost to the homeowners.

These aren’t just statistics; they represent 51 families who now sleep under safer roofs, walk on sturdier floors, and navigate their homes with dignity.

A Summer of Service: Youth and Church Groups Step Up

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of energy, faith, and hard work as visiting youth groups and church ministries converged on our community to help their neighbors.

Transforming Homes in Callao and Nuttsville

Just last week, 50 teenage volunteers from Southside Church in Chesterfield, VA rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Their incredible efforts resulted in:

  • A brand-new roof for a widow living in the Callao area
  • A complete porch rebuild for a resident in the Nuttsville aea.

Today, two local homeowners have safe, beautiful structures and a renewed sense of hope, all thanks to these hardworking teens.

Three volunteers, a young girl, an older lady, and a older man take a break to pose for a picture during the June 2026 mission trip to build a ramp and fix a roof.

Restoring Mobility in Lancaster County

Additionally, a powerhouse group of 75 volunteers from Grace Point Church (Ephrata, PA) and Faith Community Church (St. Johns, FL) joined forces. Together, they constructed:

  • 4 custom wheelchair ramps
  • 2 sets of safe entry stairs

These projects have unlocked independence for Lancaster County residents, allowing them to enter and leave their homes safely and easily.

Did you know? Every single nail driven, ramp built, and roof laid is provided at no cost to the homeowner, funded entirely by our generous donors and powered by volunteers.

The Unsought Heroes: Our Weekly Carpenters

While we love our seasonal youth groups, our mission relies heavily on our year-round backbone: our dedicated crew of retired carpenters from Chesterfield and New Kent.

These skilled craftsmen continue to travel and work tirelessly week after week, quietly performing essential home repairs for those who need them most. We are profoundly grateful for their ongoing dedication and expertise.
