Helping Neighbors Stay Safe at Home Through the Holidays

Published December 12, 2025

Throughout the past month, the Interfaith Service Council continued serving neighbors across Lancaster and Northumberland Counties, Virginia, through its Ramp and Repair Division. Each project addressed a specific need, helping homeowners remain safe, stable, and secure where they live.

"It is a true blessing to provide easy and safe home access to folks with mobility issues at not cost to them. To see the smiles and tears of gratitude as an elderly person cruses down their new wheelchair ramp is priceless!"

Practical Repairs with Lasting Impact

During November, Interfaith volunteers completed several projects across the Northern Neck.

In Weems, a damaged landing was removed and rebuilt, along with new steps. This repair restored safe access to the home and reduced fall risks for the homeowner.

Nearby in White Stone our volunteers completed two separate projects. Volunteers built a new landing with a 36-foot accessibility ramp, improving entry for a resident with mobility challenges. In the second home, a roof and ceiling repair were completed, addressing both exterior and interior damage and helping prevent further issues.

There were two service projects in the Mollusk area this month. Interfaith completed a minor plumbing repair. Our volunteer also  removed and replaced an aging 32-foot ramp, restoring safe access that had been compromised over time.

Lastly, in Ditchley, a 20-foot accessibility ramp was constructed with materials provided by the homeowner. Interfaith volunteers supplied the labor, working alongside the homeowner’s investment to ensure the project was completed safely and correctly.

Our November ramp total equals 88 feet! Stay tuned for our next blog post to give the total length of ramps built in 2025 by our volunteer crew.

One Home at a Time

Each of these projects may look different, but they share a common purpose. Together, they reflect Interfaith’s commitment to meeting neighbors where they are and responding with care. Whether the need is a ramp, a repair, or a simple fix that prevents a larger problem, the goal remains the same: helping people stay in their homes with dignity.

As requests for assistance continue across Lancaster and Northumberland Counties, Interfaith remains grateful for the volunteers, donors, and partners who make this work possible. Month by month, their support allows Interfaith to keep showing up—one home, one project, and one neighbor at a time.
