Across Lancaster and Northumberland, the Work Continues

Serving Faithfully Across Lancaster and Northumberland Counties
Across Lancaster and Northumberland Counties, Virginia, the work of the Interfaith Service Council continues week after week through the dedication of its Ramp and Repair Division. While schedules shift and weather changes plans, the mission remains steady: spreading God’s love through service, one home at a time.
"It is a true blessing to provide easy and safe home access to folks with mobility issues at not cost to them. To see the smiles and tears of gratitude as an elderly person cruses down their new wheelchair ramp is priceless!"
David Lacy
Steady Work, Real Impact in Our Local Communities
In recent weeks, Interfaith’s regular weekly volunteer crew has continued to serve neighbors throughout the Northern Neck, completing critical repairs that help homeowners remain safe and independent. Projects included:
- construction of a 25-foot accessibility ramp with a new stoop,
- replacement of two sets of steps and stoops,
- plumbing repairs that addressed essential household needs, and
- replaced worn decking on an existing ramp.
With our community partners, we were able to repair a residential well system, ensuring reliable water access for a household that depends on it.
Like every month, our volunteers stay busy. Once the work was done on current projects, our volunteers inspected several prospective projects, including a potential porch replacement, laying the groundwork for future service.
Whether near Heathsville, Burgess, Kilmarnock, Irvington, Reedville, or surrounding communities, these projects reflect the quiet, consistent work that often happens out of sight but makes a lasting difference in daily life.
Meeting Growing Needs Through Strong Partnerships
As awareness of Interfaith’s services continues to grow, so does the number of neighbors reaching out for help. Currently, there is a backlog of approximately ten projects that have been approved or are in the vetting process, an indicator of both community need and trust in Interfaith’s work.
Support from partner organizations also plays a vital role. Once again this year, Habitat for Humanity has committed to funding a portion of Interfaith’s repair work, helping make approximately $10,000 in projects possible. Partnerships like these allow Interfaith to stretch resources further and serve more households across the two counties we serve.
Preparing for the Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade
Beyond construction and repairs, Interfaith continues to stay visible and connected within the community. Preparations are well underway for the Kilmarnock Lighted Christmas Parade hosted by our friends at the Lancaster by the Bay Chamber of Commerce on December 12th. Our volunteers are excited to share our message with our community through these events.
Grateful for Those Who Make This Work Possible
None of this work happens without the faithful commitment of our volunteers, the support of donors, and the encouragement of community partners. Week after week, the Ramp and Repair Division shows up—not for recognition, but because safe housing matters and all neighbors matter.
As Interfaith continues serving across Lancaster and Northumberland Counties, the focus remains clear: responding with compassion, adapting when needed, and walking alongside neighbors through acts of service that reflect care, dignity, and hope.
